By Gail Ward Olmsted
Jackie’s efforts to reinvent herself in the tight-knit desert community are complicated. Does Rick want a relationship or just a friend with benefits? In the case of her ex, absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder. Is it her imagination or is Rob more amazing than ever? Fueled by an unflagging sense of humor and lots of caffeine, Jackie sets off to discover a whole new life- she’s had her happy, now she wants her ever after.
I am a twenty-something married mother of four, I have NOTHING in common with Jackie/Jax -the main character in Jeep Tour- so it was hard for me to relate or understand what she was dealing with and going through. In turn it made the story a little slow going for me. <<<< This is the only reason this book did not rate higher.
Gail Ward Olmsted writes wonderfully, she was a breath of fresh air for this weary eyed (and brained) book blogger. Jeep Tour is not only extremely well written but it is also flawlessly edited.
I can still smell the red Arizona dust flitting through my nostrils. Gail is an amazing writer, and while I will admit it wasn’t quite the story I thought it would be, it was great.
Jax (or Jackie) lost her job and the tenure that was right under her nose. The later realized consolation prize was in the form of a business trip she was allowed to attend. She was already playing a tedious game of life infused Whack-a- Mole, her Father passed away WHACK! Months later her Mother passed as well WHACK! Jax’s marriage failed and resulted in divorce WHACK!
Jackie moves from the East Coast to the very landlocked Arizona desert she had toured by Jeep not long before. There must be something in that red dirt and cactus fields, because her life was flipped completely upside down…actually….right side up.
The last 20% of Jeep Tour was my favorite, actually the last 4 words of the chapter were my favorite. I am curious to see how the sequel plays out.
My 2nd novel ~ Guessing at Normal, a rock and roll love story, was published by Booktrope on June 2nd. I am hard at work on book #3, which will be a sequel to JEEP TOUR, based in Ireland!!
Like JEEP TOUR’s main character Jackie Sullivan, I am a professor of marketing. I have taught at the college level for eighteen years. I am a recipient of the Deliso Endowed Chair Award and was recently recognized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as one of “29 Who Shine”. A hopeless romantic, I am married to the love of my life. I am mom to two young adults and three cats and enjoy reading, music and travel.
